20 Doggy Daycares in Charlotte

If you are away from home most of the day, your dog can get bored and lonely, and might even take it out on your couch cushions!

Doggy daycare is a good option to keep your pup happy and occupied. A good center can also help with your dog’s socialization needs, and provide a much-needed routine when you are gone. Not to mention exercise.

Inclusion in this list is not an endorsement. This list is a starting point in your search. Please make sure to read reviews, visit first, and to ask lots of questions.

Before you bring your dog to visit, stop by on your own and make sure that it’s clean an organized and has secure fencing. Does the temperature feel ok and is it relatively free of odors? Make sure that there aren’t broken toys or other hazards, and that there’s enough staff to care for the dogs.

The American Kennel Club suggests that you ask these questions:

  • Will they do a temperament test? This not only helps ensure that your dog is right for the environment but also helps to customize care
  • What training does the staff have? At the very least the staff should be trained in basic care and safety procedures, but you really want staff trained in animal behavior.
  • What are the procedures for emergencies? Are there staff members trained in canine first aid?
  • How will you learn how your dog is doing? Will there be weekly or daily reports, or a webcam?
  • What kind of corrections do they use. They should not use punishment for bad behavior, and should, instead, reward good behavior.
  • Is the facility bonded and insured?

After your dog has been going to doggy daycare for a while, assess how he’s feeling. Does he come back tired, but relaxed? Is he eager to go every day? You know your dog best and you’ll be able to tell if he’s having a good time or not.
