Free and Low Cost Rabies Vaccination Clinics in Charlotte

Rabies vaccination is required by North Carolina and South Carolina law for all cats, dogs and ferrets over four months of age. Even if the city or county you live in doesn’t require your pet to be registered, (see which Charlotte area municipalities require animal licenses) rabies vaccination is still required.

Rabies vaccinations are good for one or three years.

Charlotte Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control

8315 Byrum Drive, Charlotte, NC

CMPD Animal Care & Control offers a free rabies clinic the 2nd Saturday of every month, from 8 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.

No appointments are needed or offered. The line is cut off promptly at 10:45 a.m. Mecklenburg County residents only.

Please come prepared to wait in line. You might want to bring a chair.

  • Dogs must be leashed (no retractable leashes) and cats in carriers.
  • Please have cats in separate carriers as this makes it easier to administer the rabies shots.
  • Dogs must be in regular collars or harnesses. No chains are allowed to be used as collars.
  • All rabies vaccines given will be valid for 1 year.
  • You must bring a picture ID with your current address. If your address on your ID is not current, please also bring a utility bill that shows your current address. If you do not have a picture ID you will be turned away.
