Top Dog Names in North Carolina

Do a lot of heads turn when you call your dog’s name in the dog park? Dogs’ heads, that is? Is your child’s name more commonly a dog’s name?

Camp Bow Wow, a doggy day and overnight camp, has compiled the top ten male and female dog names in North Carolina, and there is nary a Spot or Fido on the list. The top ten names on both lists are all human names.

Human names have become so popular that the Washington Post published a tool to tell you if a name is a person name or a dog name. For instance, Michael is a human name, but Molly, Rex, Chet, and Ernie are dogs’ names. You know what is strongly a dog’s name? Beyonce. People don’t name their kids Beyonce, but they do name their dogs Beyonce.

The top female dog name, Luna, is the top dog name in North Carolina and in most other states in the United States. (See graphic below)
